Letters of Bret Harte [manuscript], 1875-1895.

Harte writes to Arnold Bliss, 1875 February 9, regarding corrections and spelling in his novel "Gabriel Conway." In a letter, 1881 April 25, Harte requests assistance for a traveler. In a letter, 1881 May 18, to Jeanette Gilder, Harte regrets that his consular duties do not allow him time to write for "The critic." In a letter, 1887 December 25, Harte enquires after the current literary projects of Albert Rhodes. In letters to his wife, Anna, 1882-1895, Harte discusses family business, finances, health, sightseeing in Scotland, the dramatization of "The Luck of Roaring Camp," current writing, the advantages of the United States in making rather than inheriting history, proposed visits, career possibilities for his son Frank, the actor Dion Boucicault, and his daughter Jessamy's literary talent.
